Power outages are bad for both people and businesses. They disrupt our everyday life and literally put us on “survival mode”. Things do not have to be that way. Households and businesses can use portable power generators. I know how important this is as I own and run a number of restaurants in the Caribbean region where power outages are common. In this review, I will discuss the features, capabilities, benefits and drawbacks of the ETQ TG72K12 8,250 Watt 13 HP 420cc 4-Cycle OHV gas powered portable generator.
I have considerable experience with portable power generators. I always shop carefully comparing the different features and capabilities of the devices. That way, I can get a complete idea of what I will receive for my money. I decided to adopt the same detailed evaluation approach when reviewing the ETQ TG72K12 Generator.
The ETQ TG72K12 portable power generator comes with a 4-cycle OHV engine producing 5,250 watts of surge power and 7,500 watts of power when running continuously. Both the engine and the frame which it is mounted on are made from durable metal materials. The dual start, the throttle control technology and the alternator technology are the most impressive features of this model.
The 420cc 4-cycle OHV engine of this ETQ generator produces 13 horsepower. This translates into 7,500 watts of electric power when the device is running continuously. The engine has heavy duty sleeves made from cast iron. This makes it particularly durable. For me, durability is crucial as I would like to get full return on my investment fairly quickly just like any other investor.
You can use both the electric start and the standard recoil start of the ETQ TG72K12. This makes the device quite versatile and this is something that I personally appreciate greatly. When the battery powering the electric start is full, you switch the device on with the push of a button. Otherwise, you use the traditional recoil start. You can expect the generator to begin working quickly every time.
The throttle control technology works very simply, but it is invaluable. It speeds up the engine when more power is needed and slows its down when you require less. This helps protect the engine from wear and tear and from damage. It ensures its operation in the long term. In addition, the throttle control technology makes the device more energy efficient. I like the fact that I can save on gas especially given the ever growing prices.
The patented ETQ Clean Sine Alternator Technology allows this ETQ portable generator to produce electricity of the highest quality. It works so that the produced AC power has low total harmonic distortion. What does this mean for you as a home or business owner? The high quality electricity is “sensitive” to all appliances and devices that you power including desktop computers and laptops. Basically, with the alternator technology the devices will work smoothly and will be perfectly well protected from damage. I find this extremely valuable as the computers are typically among the most expensive and important devices for any business including mine.
The ETQ TG72K12 gas generator is equipped with two 120-volt 20 amp outlets for powering all kinds of appliances. The 120-volt 30 amp RV connection allows for more versatile use of the device. There is a 240-volt twist lock outlet. It enables you to power different kinds of appliances individually. The device comes with a circuit breaker as well. This ensures that the risk of power surges, which can cause massive damage, is reduced to the very minimum.
The frame which this portable power generator model is mounted on is made from steel. The one-inch tubes forming the frame are designed to withstand hits and the test of time. The foam wheels are semi-pneumatic so you can expect to move the generator easily on all kinds of surfaces. The handle folds down for easy storage.
The oversize muffler allows for quieter operation of the generator. This has now become a standard feature which you can expect from most models so I do not consider it to give any special advantage.
ETQ TG72K12 comes with a 6.5-gallon fuel tank. The capacity is not the greatest I have seen, but it is pretty good given the capabilities of the portable generator.
This model produces 8,250 watts of surge power and 7,500 watts when the engine is running continuously. In general, 7,500 watts are perfectly sufficient for powering the appliances in a standard family home or a small business premises. You can run together a number of items including a refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, computer and a TV set and a cooling fan. Individually, you can power a stove, a boiler, a heating system or an air conditioning system.
ETQ TG72K12 gas powered generator will produce power for 10.5 hours at 50 per cent load when the tank is full. This running time is quite good compared to similar generators available in the market, even though there are some which can do better. I personally find the running time highly satisfactory.
You can use this portable power generator at home or for your small business. It can be used by contractors for powering electric tools such as drills. The model is certainly versatile. You can expect it to do a good job in emergencies. It should work effectively in the long term.
The major benefits of ETQ TG72K12 are:
- Easy and simple start
- High quality electricity
- Safe operation
- Energy efficiency
- Perfect portability
There are not many cons I could find, but I feel obliged to share the ones I noticed:
- The engine does not work as quietly as I would like it to. Still, 70 to 85 dB of noise is fine, provided that the generator is in another room or in my case away from my clients.
- The battery for the electric start is not included in the package. You need to purchase it separately. I do not like making additional investments when I make one that is large.
Overall, the ETQ TG72K12 Electric Start Generator is a product I would recommend. Despite its minor flaws, it makes high quality electricity, allows you to save on fuel and is designed to work for a long time.
